Henshaws is a charity dedicated to supporting people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities, with a history spanning over 180 years. By attending BedFest 2024, you are not just enjoying a fantastic day out, you are also supporting the incredible work of Henshaws.
As part of our 20th year celebrations in 2023, Wish were proud to make Henshaws our charity of the year, and aim to support their calendar of activities.
About Henshaws College
Henshaws Specialist College is based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire for students aged 16-25 with special educational needs and disabilities, including:
- Sensory Impairments
- Autistic Spectrum Condition
- Physical Disabilities
- Healthcare Needs
- Moderate to severe learning difficulties
- Profound and multiple learning disabilities
The college provides a personalised learning environment for young people, and emphasises the development of independence, employability, and personal skills, helping students reach their full potential.
Bed race day
Bed Fest supports one of the UK’s most unique and entertaining community events – The Great Knaresborough Bed Race!
The Bed Race is the highlight of the day, featuring a mighty pageant of decorated beds with passengers and runners, navigating a 2.4 mile course through Knaresborough.
Before the race begins, enjoy the parade that showcases the creativity and community spirit of Knaresborough. This is a fantastic opportunity to see the beds up close and appreciate the hard work that goes into each one.
The event is organised by volunteers from the Knaresborough Lions to raise funds to meet local charitable and community needs. This annual community event is an unforgettable experience for the teams involved, and unmissable for the spectators.
